Death: Charles Smith, 46, Killed In A Car Accident On US-42 – After a two-vehicle crash on US-42 between Bleu Yacht Lane and Ransom Drive in Union, Kentucky, one person was killed and two people were injured. Charles Smith, 46, of Union, was identified as the victim by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.
According to investigators, a guy driving a 2006 Dodge Durango was headed west on US-42 just before the Ransom Drive intersection when he couldn’t make a turn and veered off to the right. According to a news release, the man attempted to right the SUV back into the road, but overcorrected and crossed the center line into the wrong lane.
According to wcpo.com, investigators, the man then T-boned Smith’s 2011 Kia Forte. At the scene of the accident, WCPO photojournalist Rob Pieper noticed the Durango roughly 20 feet up into someone’s yard. Union EMS attempted but failed to save Smith’s life, according to the sheriff’s office. Smith was declared dead on the spot.
According to the announcement, a teen passenger in Smith’s automobile received non-life-threatening injuries and was sent to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. The driver of the Durango was brought to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center with minor injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.
Speed appears to have played a role in the accident, according to investigators. Alcohol and drug impairment are yet unknown issues, according to experts. The sheriff’s office stated that no charges have been filed at this time.
