8 year old, Caleb Ramirez killed By Driver Without License In Texas : An 8-year-old boy riding his bicycle in the Rio Grande Valley town of Pharr was struck and killed by a pickup truck in April. Now, it’s emerged that the person behind the wheel of the GMC Sierra was a 17-year-old boy driving without a license, ValleyCentral.com reported.
The 8-year-old, Caleb Ramirez, was riding his bike across the street in the 700 block of East Eller, where he lived, at about 7 p.m. on April 26.The 2-ton pickup had just pulled out of a driveway on the opposite side of the street and was traveling 25 to 30 mph when it hit Caleb, just before he reached the other side of Eller, according to an accident report filed with the Texas Department of Transportation. The driver told police he noticed the boy and his bike too late to bring the truck to a stop. Caleb was pronounced dead at 8:09 p.m.
Police issued the 17-year-old a citation for driving without a license, the accident report says. An initial statement by the Pharr Police Department said the driver struck Caleb while backing out of the driveway, and that the teenager had remained on the scene, was cooperating with Police later changed their account of the incident in a statement, stating that the truck struck the youngster when it was traveling east on Eller. The statement stated that the case is still being investigated rather than that no criminal charges were expected.
