Approximately 2:40 p.m. The boat slammed into a pier in the Tar River Reservoir on Saturday, March 19, according to a news release from the Rocky Mount Police Department. John McManus, the boat’s driver, was pushed overboard.
According to the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality, the Tar River Reservoir is located “near the confluence of the Tar River and Sapony Creek.” Fishing and boating are permitted.
As of Sunday, March 20, police had not revealed any additional information. An inquiry into the collision is being led by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission.
