23 yr old Roger fortson Shot Dead; Fort Walton Beach Florida: OKALOOSA COUNTY— U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Roger Fortson, 23, was killed in Friday’s officer-involved shooting in Okaloosa County. Fortson joined the 4th Special Operations Squadron, according to Hurlburt Field. He joined active duty Nov. 19, 2019.
“The 1st Special Operations Wing’s priorities are providing casualty affairs service to the family, supporting the squadron during this tragic time, and ensuring resources are available for all who are impacted,” Hurlburt Field said in a release. The incident occurred Friday afternoon at 319 Racetrack Road apartments.
The deputy responded in self-defense after hearing a commotion and encountering the 23-year-old with a gun, according to a release. The deputy introduced himself as law enforcement, according to the sheriff’s office. Fortson died after being hospitalized. Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is the lead investigation agency in this incident. To protect the integrity of the investigation, no other information will be released at this time.
