Hope College Campus Shooting – Authorities say law enforcement agencies are responding to a shooting report near the Hope College campus in Holland, Michigan Wednesday night. Authorities say officials were called to the shooting at about 10:30 p.m. on June 1, 2022. Hope College issued a “HOPE ALERT” stating that an off-campus shooting occurred near 16th Avenue and College.

According to the alert, the suspect has not yet been apprehended, and the campus has been placed on immediate lockdown as multiple law enforcement agencies respond to the scene. According to Ottawa County Central Dispatch, police have already begun setting up a perimeter, but no suspect has been identified. Responding officials have ordered two ambulances to the area where they say two individuals were shot multiple times. The condition of the victims is not known at this time. A 19-year-old guy from Holland was taken into custody by police on Thursday, and it is anticipated that he will be charged in connection with the shooting that resulted in the death of one man and the injury of another man on Wednesday night.

There was no information released on the arrest, but it was anticipated that the suspect would be charged with first-degree murder, assault with the intent to commit murder, and felony firearms offenses. According to the police, the incident happened on College Avenue at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The area around Hope College, which was only a few blocks away, was placed on lockdown until approximately 1 a.m. Thursday.

“The campus is currently under LOCKDOWN status. Adjustments need to be made where necessary,” On the social media platform Twitter, administrators from the liberal arts college made the announcement just before 10:30 o’clock in the evening. A man from Holland who was 19 years old and had undergone surgery on Thursday was pronounced dead at Holland Hospital, while another man from Holland who was 18 years old was reported to be in critical condition at the hospital. The police said that both of the people who were shot were riding bicycles at the time of the event which resulted in their injuries.

The authorities have not disclosed the reason for the shooting; nevertheless, they have claimed that the victims were not selected at random and that it is highly likely that the shooter had them in mind when he began firing his weapon. Officers found the two victims with gunshot wounds in the vicinity of College Avenue between 16th and 17th streets, according to Captain Robert Buursma of the Holland Department of Public Safety.

Both victims were located in the neighborhood of College Avenue. The bodies of both victims were found by the authorities drenched in blood. Both victims were male. According to Buursma, there has not yet been a conclusion reached about the investigation into the occurrence.
