Rose State College Shooting Investigations – Multiple law enforcement agencies are responding to a report of an active shooter/shooting at the Rose State College in Midwest City, Oklahoma Monday. According to reports, the Rose State College campus located in the area of 6420 SE 15th St, Midwest City, OK has been placed on an immediate lockdown as tons of officers respond to this reports. At approximately 12:20 p.m., multiple units responded to the Rose State College, Humanities Building following reports of a person shot.
Arriving investigators advised that one individual has died following the shooting, a suspect has been taken into custody following the incident. A heavy police presence is currently at the scene of the incident where everyone is being urged to avoid at this time.
UPDATE: A 20-year-old student was shot to death Monday at Rose State College in Oklahoma, according to police, who reported no additional injuries after the campus was momentarily locked down. Midwest City Police Chief Sid Porter said the man surrendered after authorities approached him following the incident at the campus’s heart. The community college is located just outside of Oklahoma City. Police identified the suspect as Brandon Morrissette, 30, who is charged with first-degree murder. It was unclear whether he had an attorney on Monday night.
The victim and Morrissette’s wife, who is also a Rose State College student, were walking out of a building when they were confronted by the gunman, according to Porter. The man, who was not immediately identified by authorities, was pronounced dead at the site. Porter did not provide any other information on what may have led to the incident. Rose State College suspended classes for the rest of the day once the lockdown was lifted.
According to Porter, the first officers arrived on the scene in about one minute. He complimented students and faculty for their actions during the lockdown and mentioned that Rose State College had prepared what to do in the event of an active shooter weeks before the attack. “Things got locked down real quick,” Porter explained. “I just think they did a fantastic job of listening to the school and everybody staying down and not panicking because we didn’t know what was going on.”
